Position Overview:


The Chief Engineer is responsible for oversight of the maintenance and repairs of all areas of the hotel, while ensuring compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.



This position will ensure a safe and hazard-free fully functioning hotel for all our guests and ownership.

  • Supervise the daily operation of the maintenance department
  • Schedule appropriately based on business demands while controlling labor costs and staying within budget
  • Maintain ongoing communication with team, General Manager and other departments to resolve guest and hotel issues
  • Collaborate with Housekeeping and Loss Prevention to address defencies in guests rooms and hotel
  • Address and resolve conflict within department
  • Assist Loss Prevention with creating keys, monitoring alarm system and installations that relate to Loss Prevention functions
  • Maintain visibility and provide "hands-on" service to mentor and educate the maintenance team
  • Coordinate with the Loss Prevention to develop and establish Risk Management and evacuation procedures
  • Assist with lock interrogation and monitor fire panel activities
  • Ensure confidentiality of all guest information
  • Resolve safety vault issues in guest rooms and repair guest room door locks
  • Practice and enforce the hotel's Daily Core Values and 3 Steps of Service
  • Maintain knowledge of hotel and area, services and amenities
  • Organize and conduct daily/monthly/pre-shift department meetings as required
  • Conduct daily walk-through to ensure proper maintenance of the hotel
  • Identify hazardous and maintenance issues and apply proper methods and procedures for immediate resolution
  • Train the Maintenance team to properly handle all tools and equipment and adhere to OSHA regulations
  • Establish relationships and negotiate with vendors to ensure immediate and cost-effective resolution to mechanical problems
  • Prepare purchase orders and maintain adequate inventory of supplies and equipment 
  • Hire, train and develop the Engineering team to exceed expectations
  • Inspect all Fire & Life Safety equipment to comply with all applicable regulations
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Adhere to audit requirements to ensure successful audits and inspections
  • Monitor work orders and requests and ensure assignments are completed in a timely manner
  • Inspect landscaping and outdoors and provide solutions to improve the aesthetics of the building
  • Perform other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor's degree or college coursework required
  • Minimum of 3 years managerial role in the Engineering area of a full-service or luxury hotel
  • Must demonstrate a professional and cordial demeanor towards internal and external guests
  • Must be proficient in computer Microsoft programs - Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills required
  • Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels, including Corporate, ownership, internal and external guests 
  • Ability to carry, push or pull or carry at least 50 lbs
  • Must be able to use both hands, reach, bend, sit, stand, crouch, kneel, see, smell, and hear
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, Life Safety, and IT technology required
  • Proven ability to properly operate power tools and other maintenance equipment
  • Must possess an excellent command of English language, written and verbal
  • Bi-lingual- English and Spanish- preferred
  • OSHA training preferred
  • Ability to work any shift, based on business demands, including weekends and holidays
